I started Molly's Militia...a rescue effort born out of desperation and determination to save a lonely little red Cocker Spaniel named Molly. On the day Molly was rescued, my neighbor and I also saved a blond Cocker Spaniel named Charlie---who was in the same shelter.

When I first saw Molly, she was peeking out of a darkened cage filled with flea-infested dogs, each vying for my attention. She was matted with feces and urine, and covered with fleas. After a visit to the vet, I found out Molly had heartworms, which she was treated for and cured. When I took Molly for her heartworm treatment, it killed me to leave her there for three nights. I never wanted Molly to feel she was being deserted again. When Molly was at the vet for the heartworm treatment, I also had her teeth cleaned. Her teeth in the back were in bad shape, and a couple fell out during the cleaning. The vet said she had probably scavenged for food. This broke my heart.

On the day I got Molly, I made a promise that I would never stop trying to save animals in conditions like Molly was in. I hope to network with other rescue groups, humane societies, and anyone who cares about animals, to help dogs and cats, or any other suffering animal.
The pound that Molly was in was worse than anything I had read or imagined. Please read about this shelter. Before a local newspaper brought the conditions there to light, this shelter disposed of the animals in this way, in a horrific gas chamber where they struggled to find pockets of air.

Molly's Militia always needs volunteers, foster homes and donations. Our group will never be an "organization." Molly's Militia is a movement of the spirit into a greater awareness that we are ONE with all living things. We won't conform to the world and our goal is to make everyone aware of the horrible conditions countless animals in shelters are in, and the staggering numbers that are killed each year.

Richmond County Animal Control (RCAC) has been the center of controversy in our community for quite sometime. Despite multiple citations from the Georgia Department of Agriculture, RCAC has continued to provide poor living conditions for animals awaiting adoptions.  We continue to hear idle words from the Augusta Mayor and Commissioners  about the "proposed" new shelter, but we see no progress being made.  If you would like to learn more about the conditions at RCAC, please read the articles below. Then take a tour of RCAC at 4164 Mack Lane to see for yourself.

Please include your name, address and phone number, or the letter will not be printed.  Your address and phone number will not appear in the newspaper. For the names, addresses and phone numbers of the Mayor and Augusta Commissioners, check out our News & Issues page.

WE HOPE YOU WILL WRITE AN EMAIL OR LETTER AND DEMAND HUMANE CONDITIONS AND TREATMENT OF THE ANIMALS AT RICHMOND COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL!
